Carolina silverbell (a.k.a. bell tree, snowdrop tree) is a medium size deciduous tree, growing 30 to 40 feet tall and 20 to 35 feet wide. Often it grows with a narrow oval crown, but it also may divide into several leaders forming a much broader canopy. The leaves are a dark yellow-green, turning yellow in fall. The white, bell-shaped flowers are borne in clusters of two to five in the leaf axils, appearing in spring. They bloom just prior to, or at the same time as the foliage emergence. In fall, the 1-1.5 inch seed bearing fruits ripen to brown.
